    Optimization on the financial management of the bank with goal programming model

    Financial management is crucial for planning bank’s asset and liabilities while takingconsideration for multiple objectives. The objective of this study is to develop a GoalProgramming (GP) model to optimize the financial management of Public Bank Berhad inMalaysia. Six goals from the financial statements namely total asset, total liability, total equity, profit, earning and optimum management items are investigated for the period from 2011 to 2015. The results of this study indicate that all six goals are fully achieved by using the GP model. This study is significant because it helps to develop a mathematical model to examine the financial strengths of Public Bank Berhad in Malaysia. Besides that, the potential improvement on liability, equity, profit, earning and optimum management item of Public Bank Berhadcan be identified in this study based on the deviation from the target value.Keywords: Asset; Liability; Equity; Profit; Earning; Optimum Management Item

    Controlling the Momentum Current of an Off-resonant Ratchet

    We experimentally investigate the phenomenon of a quantum ratchet created by exposing a Bose-Einstein Condensate to short pulses of a potential which is periodic in both space and time. Such a ratchet is manifested by a directed current of particles, even though there is an absence of a net bias force. We confirm a recent theoretical prediction [M. Sadgrove and S. Wimberger, New J. Phys. \textbf{11}, 083027 (2009)] that the current direction can be controlled by experimental parameters which leave the underlying symmetries of the system unchanged. We demonstrate that this behavior can be understood using a single variable containing many of the experimental parameters and thus the ratchet current is describable using a single universal scaling law.Comment: arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1210.565

    Secondary pattern computation of an arbitrarily shaped main reflector

    The secondary pattern of a perfectly conducting offset main reflector being illuminated by a point feed at an arbitrary location was studied. The method of analysis is based upon the application of the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to the aperture fields obtained using geometrical optics (GO) and geometrical theory of diffraction (GTD). Key features of the reflector surface is completely arbitrary, the incident field from the feed is most general with arbitrary polarization and location, and the edge diffraction is calculated by either UAT or by UTD. Comparison of this technique for an offset parabolic reflector with the Jacobi-Bessel and Fourier-Bessel techniques shows good agreement. Near field, far field, and scan data of a large reflector are presented

    Appearance of the canine meninges in subtraction magnetic resonance images

    The canine meninges are not visible as discrete structures in noncontrast magnetic resonance (MR) images, and are incompletely visualized in T1‐weighted, postgadolinium images, reportedly appearing as short, thin curvilinear segments with minimal enhancement. Subtraction imaging facilitates detection of enhancement of tissues, hence may increase the conspicuity of meninges. The aim of the present study was to describe qualitatively the appearance of canine meninges in subtraction MR images obtained using a dynamic technique. Images were reviewed of 10 consecutive dogs that had dynamic pre‐ and postgadolinium T1W imaging of the brain that was interpreted as normal, and had normal cerebrospinal fluid. Image‐anatomic correlation was facilitated by dissection and histologic examination of two canine cadavers. Meningeal enhancement was relatively inconspicuous in postgadolinium T1‐weighted images, but was clearly visible in subtraction images of all dogs. Enhancement was visible as faint, small‐rounded foci compatible with vessels seen end on within the sulci, a series of larger rounded foci compatible with vessels of variable caliber on the dorsal aspect of the cerebral cortex, and a continuous thin zone of moderate enhancement around the brain. Superimposition of color‐encoded subtraction images on pregadolinium T1‐ and T2‐weighted images facilitated localization of the origin of enhancement, which appeared to be predominantly dural, with relatively few leptomeningeal structures visible. Dynamic subtraction MR imaging should be considered for inclusion in clinical brain MR protocols because of the possibility that its use may increase sensitivity for lesions affecting the meninges

    The NMDA receptor functions independently and as an LRP1 co-receptor to promote Schwann cell survival and migration

    NMDA Receptors (NMDA-Rs) are ionotropic glutamate receptors, which associate with LDL Receptor-related Protein-1 (LRP1) to trigger cell-signaling in response to protein ligands in neurons. Herein, we demonstrate for the first time that the NMDA-R is expressed by rat Schwann cells (SCs) and functions independently and with LRP1 to regulate SC physiology. The NR1 and NR2b NMDA-R subunits were expressed by cultured SCs and up-regulated in sciatic nerves following crush injury. The ability of LRP1 ligands to activate ERK1/2 and promote SC migration required the NMDA-R. NR1 gene-silencing compromised SC survival. Injection of the LRP1 ligands, tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA) or MMP9-PEX, into crush-injured sciatic nerves, activated ERK1/2 in SCs in vivo and the response was blocked by systemic treatment with the NMDA-R inhibitor, MK801. tPA was unique amongst the LRP1 ligands examined because tPA activated cell-signaling and promoted SC migration by interacting with the NMDA-R independently of LRP1, albeit with delayed kinetics. These results define the NMDA-R as a SC signaling receptor for protein ligands and a major regulator of SC physiology, which may be particularly important in PNS injury
